Help at home

Building the skills to do more for yourself

Some support is about getting the job done. This support is about learning to do it yourself. We work alongside you on the skills you want to build, at your pace, until you no longer need us for that part of your life.

What we help with

  • Cooking, meal planning and food safety
  • Budgeting, paying bills and managing money day to day
  • Building a weekly routine and keeping appointments
  • Learning to catch buses and trains (travel training)
  • Shopping independently and comparing prices
  • Household skills such as laundry and keeping a tidy home

Goals you set, progress you can see

We start with what you want to be able to do in six months that you cannot do now. Then we break it into small steps, practise them in real situations, and check in regularly on what is working.

Common questions

What is the difference between daily living support and life skills support?

Daily living support helps get a task done. Life skills support teaches you to do it yourself, with the aim of needing less help over time.

Can you help me learn to use public transport?

Yes. Travel training means practising a route with you until you are confident to do it on your own.

How long does skill building support last?

As long as it is useful. We review progress with you regularly and adjust the support as you need less of it.
